A bit of an update, and a rant about the illness effecting our breeding rabbits. I got the final report back from MSU. Pretty much said the the same the previous neocropsy report did. Septecemia suspected as an underlying illness, e coli(non infectious opportunistic bacteria strain), and come coccidia. They weren't able to find the cause of the illness. They also didn't find anything growing in the feed. I could pay an extra $60 per sample to have them tested for microtoxins. At this point there is no way I can afford that right now, because the last tests drained my account.

Unfortunately, I have two more sick animals. I think I have pinpointed the reason why this time. One of the last two bags of purina rabbit chow I opened was so full of cracked corn that it was falling off the pellets. I have not had any problems with the feed till now. None of the antibiotics I have used on the previous rabbits are working. I have even tried baytril this time, and it didn't work. The only thing that seems to be helping them is force feeding them cecetropes(soft mushy poo full of nutrients and enzymes) from a healthy rabbit.

Also, heads up to those of you who are feeding purina rabbit chow. For some reason they decided to switch the complete blend to a corn based formula, instead of corn free like the old one was was. corn is not good for rabbits, and can cause some serious health issues when it ferments. Which means I am going to have to find another feed again. Nice huh?

Some of you have asked about unethical breeders continuing to show and sell their animals, despite having sick animals dying at home. I have already mentioned one person. here is another to be aware of, under the cut. This was on the ISRBA yahoo group.

Sorry about the long, I don't care if I know her IRL. People like that make my blood boil. I could also care less if she's been talking shit about me to her 'buddies' in the show world. I don't plan on going to a show any time soon, so it doesn't bother me any. She had better not start shit with me at them when I do start going again. Otherwise she may get told off. She may have friends in high places at them, but, so do I. I also got verbally attacked offlist by one of her buddies for picking on poor Jackie. Because her animals are 'healthy' and she has the right to take them to shows. There are thos eof us struggling to save our animals by doing everything we can for them by trying to seek out rabbit savy vets, and getting state labs/Universities involved. Yet, there are inconsiderate Idiots like her that refuse to do anything to help their animals, because its just 'nature taking its course.'

Not a huge fan of the stupid pet owners community. Not a member either. Anyone wants to gank that for it, be my guest. She deserves it.

BTW she lives in the illinios area. Hits up a lot of rabbit shows in michigan, ohio, wisconsin, and indiana. Just in case anyone wants to know.

UPDATE: Mod dropped me an email stating he was about ready to put her on moderation or ban her ass for being an idiot. LOLZ.

hello! First time poster here and I'm looking for some advice/experiences/possibly reassurance.... I have a very sick bunny :( she stopped eating everything but carrot tops so I took her to the vets yesterday where she has been ever since. I called them this morning and despite them syringe feeding/giving her fluids and meds she is still not eating on her own. They say that she will possibly need dental work, as her molars are a bit long and she may have malocclusion with her incisors also. So she is staying in another night and as long as they can get her gut going she will have the dental tomorrow.

I'm really freaking out as I know this is a big killer in rabbits. Do many rabbits make it through this? I've already looked at the memory entry as well as doing some googling, but some personal experiences would be good, too. thanks guys.

So, turns out my little doe is not pregnant afteral...she was pregnant. I finally found her nest, under my dresser, and initially all I saw was fur, so I thought that she had just built a nest, so I grabbed her nest box so I could move it into there and put it in the pen with her, and it turns out there're already two fat, healthy, WEEK old little babies in there, burried under all the fur! I put them back where I found them naturally (after taking pictures of course), so I'm hoping she'll go back in there and take care of them, even though I inadvertently tore her nest apart, yikes! :-o

Here're some pics of the babies, their mama, and the secret nest that was under my dresser:

Hey, does anyone have any experience with these treats? We normally don't give treats, but got a free trial pack in a bag of pellets. I looked up info on rabbit.org and these didn't seem too bad but I thought better to see if any of you had first hand experience

Ok i need your help! The room i have minnie in has a futon bed next to her cage. When i let her out, she runs right under the futon and just tears the carpet up. The futon bed is too low to put NIC cubes around it because theres nothing to tie the tops of the NIC cubes to the bed so then she tries to squeeze in between the bed and the tops of the NIC cubes (she even will jump on top of the bed and try to jump between the wall and the bed to get under there!). Is there ANYTHING else i can use to keep her from getting under there? I feel so bad because i would love to let her stay out of the cage as much as possible, but right now i can only let her out when i'm able to supervise her. Thank you all :)

**EDIT Wed Dec 9 00:28:16 UTC 2009 **

The notification system has been fixed in the new release... we are currently processing the queue, which is upwards of 12m jobs... please bear with us while our workers chew through this large queue and get your notification / emails out. Some may come more quickly than others due to weights on the notifications themselves, but we are hoping in the next 24 hours to have all the queues cleared and all notifications delivered that had been queued up over the past few days.

Again I apologize for this inconvenience, but we are almost out of the woods as soon as we are done clear cutting some of the forest ;)

Thanks,

** END EDIT**

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately with our last release, and its instability, we were forced to roll back releases. Unfortunately in doing so, it would seem that our notification system has been broken somehow. Our engineers are working on this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to have a patch within the next day, so we can deploy our code and fix the notification system at the same time. Please *bear* with us ;)

Currently all notifications are being queued up so they can be processed as soon as the fix is pushed and verified to be working correctly.

Thank you,
